Why of all things the didgeridoo for the therapy of snoring and sleep apnea?
With the observation of didgeridoo players, it can be determined that the muscles in the throat are strained. With the therapeutic playing techniques developed by Alex Suarez, the vibrations which are produced by this instrument when playing have a positive influence on the muscles and the connective tissue.
Are there forms of sleep apnea which the Asate therapy does not help?
Yes. With a central (not obstructive) sleep apnea the therapy has no effect. For this, other treatment measures are necessary. In addition to that, the medical didgeridoo is not enough with a serious obstructive sleep apnea as a sole therapy measure. In such a case, the patient must additionally use a CPAP device and undergo regular medical examinations.
What is the difference between an original didgeridoo and the Asate therapy instrument?
The traditional didgeridoo, which originates in Australia, is made of eucalyptus wood and has different sizes and diameters. The aborigines of this continent have played this instrument for more than 40,000 years. The mystic sounds have numerous tasks. For the aborigines, they served among other things for communication, ritual purposes or they supported healing processes of various illnesses.
What kind of a special breathing technique is used to generally play the didgeridoo?
This is a circular breathing, which was developed by the aborigines in Australia. This is a combined breathing, blowing technique so that when you breathe in a continuous flow of air from the mouth can be retained. You breathe in through the nose and with the cheeks you at the same time produce an air flow which produces the typical sound. This means that you blow up the cheeks and thus form an air reservoir from which you can let air flow out while breathing in air.
Is the circular breathing important for the therapy effect?
No! There are also participants in the seminars who cannot reach the circular breathing, which does not have an effect on the therapy. It is much more important to reach the correct basic tone – a strongly vibrating frequency which gently massages and strengthens the connective tissue of the upper airways. With this basic tone, in combination with the Asate playing technique, success is reached even without circular breathing.
Doesn’t the volume of the didgeridoo disturb the neighbors?
That was one of the reasons for developing the medical didgeridoo made of Plexiglas. It is not as loud as the traditional didgeridoo made of eucalyptus wood. The regular tone, which moves in deep frequencies, cannot be heard as of a specific distance and through walls. There have been no reports from therapy participants who say that playing the didgeridoo has caused complaints from the neighbors.
